Nov. 1 First Friday: Holiday Open House

Halloween is Thursday, so that means it’s time to switch into the holiday mindset Friday. Get into the spirit at local shops and events during the First Friday Holiday Open House 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown York. Offerings include:

New:
— Check out Sweet Melissa’s Dream new location at 38 N. Beaver St.
— Attorney Rich Reilly, 14 N. George St., will host an open house 2:30 to 7 p.m., featuring drinks and art.
— Learn about an alternative to smoking at The Eternal Vaper, 57 S. George St.
Arthur & Daughters, 49 N. Beaver St., will be debuting our new private label line of hats and belts are handmade in York. Visitors can enjoy cocktails and dessert.

Art:
— The Parliament presents “Real American,” which feature perspectives of American culture from local artists. Stop by 116 E. King St. to check it out, enjoy refreshments and hear lives tunes.
— See tattoo and graffiti pieces from local artist and watch art being created live at Philosophy Collective, 126 E. King St.
— Get “The Naked Truth” at YorkArts@CityArt, 118 W. Philadelphia St. There will be an artists reception for the new exhibit 5 to 9 p.m.

Music:
— Hear Extremity during this month’s Jazz in the City concert. It runs 5 to 7 p.m. in the Studio at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St. Studio entrance is around the corner on Philadelphia Street. Cost is $3 and free with student ID.
New Grounds Roasting, 284 W. Market St., will have live music, including a drum circle and open mike.
— Harpist Julie Swope will perform at Cherie Anne Designs, 48 W. Philadelphia St. Visitors can enter a drawing for a gift basket.

Food and more:
— Get Thanksgiving ideas at Park Street Pantry, 24 N. Beaver St. Visitors can sample side dishes prepared with spices, vinegars and oils sold in the shop.
Ladybug Baking Company, 33 N. Beaver St., will unveil its holiday cupcake flavor and offer discounts on lattes.
Maewyn’s Irish Pub, 110 N. George St., will offer dessert samples.
